Even before the Coronavirus hit North Carolina, RCNC has been committed to supporting those who regularly provide services to the recovery community. Recognizing that without support and technical assistance as it relates to self-care and skill building, the likelihood of service providers including peer support specialists, recovery coaches, care coordinators and others who spend their days ensuring the needs of those with SUDs and co-occurring conditions are met; being vulnerable to periods of overwhelm, depression and experiencing vicarious burnout and trauma as a result of our work is very high.   

Now that our state is experiencing high rates of COVID-19 infection and even death, it is not only important to ensure we are following our nation and state’s public health safety COVID-19 recommendations, but that we are also addressing the human, emotional and psycho-physiological side of both the acute and chronic stress associated with this virus for recovery champions as we work to take care of those who need us more in this time of physical and social distancing where many are feeling isolated, siloed and alone.

As a result of our current circumstances in North Carolina, RCNC is encouraging CPSS and Recovery Coaches and other recovery service providers to join us weekly at 11am EST for an interactive Zoom session which is designed to allow us to check in, sharing cares, concerns, accomplishments and triumphs, build an affinity community group, and care for each other. 

In times of difficulty, building community in this way is a proven way to help weather our inner battles and better handle the outer challenges we face daily.
