North Carolina Recovery Community: Courtni's Recovery Story

"At 13 years old I began drinking, and I had found the only thing that made my mind stop and made me feel like that was not a care in the world. I’ve always been a worrier, full of anxiety, but alcohol and Marijuana became my cure. That cure lasted for a while, until it didn’t and l needed something more. By the age of 23, I had nothing and was on the edge of losing my kids and my mind! At this point I knew I had to do something different.

In 2014, I came to Raleigh for treatment and I haven’t looked back. These past 8 years have not been easy, but I have a beautiful life with continuous growth and I have had my children by my side every step of the way! In 2020 I became a Certified Peer Support Specialist on a post overdose response team and I had found my purpose. During my work on that team, RCNC provided trainings, support, and comradeship that really helped to motivate, uplift, and prevent burnout! I am so grateful for my tribe here in Raleigh! I love a life today that I never thought was possible!" -Courtni Brooke Wright, North Carolina. #OurStoriesHavePower #RCNCRecovery
