Addiction recovery can take many forms: perhaps you’ve tried the 12-step method and are looking for a mindful alternative, or a complement to practice. This is where Refuge Recovery can help. With a focus on regaining personal power, developing clarity of mind through meditation, and developing compassion for ourselves and others, this approach to addiction recovery appeals both to logic and the emotional self.

What is Refuge Recovery?
Refuge Recovery is a path and practice to healing the suffering caused by addiction. It draws on Buddhist philosophy to recognize and address issues around ‘uncontrollable thirst or repetitive craving.’ At its heart, Buddhism suggests that we are all addicts, in a constant search for pleasure and avoidance of pain. When this addiction disrupts our lives we become like the hungry ghost, wandering through existence in a state of constant craving and suffering. Refuge Recovery is based on the four noble truths and the eightfold path, and while Buddhist in origin, is non-sectarian and does not require a belief in a higher power to practice.
